Sprint debuts a new program that affords customers unlimited talk, text, and high speed data and also the opportunity to upgrade their smartphone every 12 months. The firm said that the Sprint One Up program will be priced at $65 per month, 15 less per month than its Unlimited, My Way standard rate plan. Customers are guaranteed unlimited talk, text, and data for so long as the phone line remains in service. The program is now available to new and current customers on Unlimited, My Way, and My All-In plans starting Friday. It is thus far unavailable in Florida or in Washington, D.C.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): Current price $467.18
On Friday, Apple began selling its new iPhones, seeing long lines at some stores amid early reports of strong demand and limited supply of the iPhone 5S. Reports show strong demand for the iPhone 5S, especially the model in the new gold color. Long lines formed at a number of the company’s retail stores, which is now typical of Apple’s high-profile product launches, although some analysts warn that line length does not necessarily give a strong portent of long-term demand.
Broadcom Corp. (NASDAQ:BRCM): Current price $27.34
Shares spiked Friday on reports that Apple’s new iPhones contain some of Broadcom’s processors. Analyst Gary Mobley at Benchmark wrote in a note to clients that a tear-down analysis run by iFixit of iPhone 5C and 5S models indicated that, “Most component suppliers featured in the iPhone 5 are also included in the 5s/5c including Broadcom as the combo connectivity chip supplier and supplier for the touch screen controller IC.”
